The how, what and when of creating a company-wide net zero strategy for manufacturers and engineers, with practical tools and insights in one packed day in London in November 2022.
BAE Systems, Siemens DI, Renishaw, LISI Aerospace, Johnson Controls, Lumen and Pragmatic Semiconductors will be sharing their net zero journeys at Engineering Zero: The Leadership Forum on 23 November in the Platinum Suite at Excel London. Joining them with cross-industry insights and learnings will be leading industry experts from BEIS, Innovate UK, HVM Catapult, Deloitte, Imperial College, BSI, Element Materials, UCL and the MTC.
Engineering Zero: The Leadership Forum, will be packed with ideas for collaboration and learning. Practical tools will be shared by engineering and manufacturing senior leaders transitioning to a zero-carbon future through digital technologies, operational efficiencies, workforce reskilling and supply chain innovations.
The combined strengths of The Engineer, Manufacturing Management and HR Magazine, together with the expert advisory board and extensive industry research, have highlighted the key areas of concern for manufacturers building their net zero plans:
Why this event and why now?
“Nearly half of manufacturers have implemented their decarbonisation plans despite challenging economic conditions.
8 in 10 manufacturers say decarbonisation is now a high or medium priority in their business.
Nearly half (46 per cent) have already implemented their decarbonisation strategy with a further quarter due to start in the next 12 months.
Energy efficiency is the main pathway towards carbon reduction with almost half of manufacturers (47 per cent) citing this as the focus of their decarbonisation projects,” said Make UK.
BEIS’s Chief Scientific Adviser, Professor Paul Monks, opens the day with the latest on funding, incentives and government legislation in the pipeline. He will be sharing plans on ensuring that manufacturing leadership is at the centre of net zero progress and UK growth in Regulation, incentives and funding – what next for UK manufacturing?
Sam Turner, CTO, HMV Catapult and Jeremy Watson CBE, Professor of Engineering Systems at the Net Zero What Works Centre at UCL will explore what are the key factors for net zero success in manufacturing businesses? Collaboration and funding partnerships are key, together with vision, leadership and company-wide net zero strategies.
Four leaderships success stories will explore how to build efficient and cost-effective manufacturing processes that are truly competitive. Case studies and real-life journeys will be shared by Siemens Digital Industries, Imperial College London, Renishaw and BAE Systems. The morning sessions will finish with an in-depth discussion on how we collaborate to address the challenges of decarbonisation.
Following a longer lunch for networking and structured 1to1 meetings, the group will split into four main areas of focus – giving everyone a chance to drill down into specific areas for concern for their own business. These have come from industry research with common themes:
